A Q&A with Bobbi's Bar

Bobbi’s Bar in Breda has made an impressive statement in the Sir Edmond Gin Contest, securing an impressive third-place finish among over 100 competing venues! The goal was simple: collect the most Sir Edmond Gin caps. The top venue would win an amazing price, tickets to their favourite event, for the whole team! Despite fierce competition, Bobbi’s Bar showed dedication and popularity, securing their strong performance.

Let’s uncover the secrets behind their strong performance and explore what made Bobbi’s Bar stand out in this Sir Edmond Gin Contest.

Congratulations on winning the “WIN YOUR FAVOURITE EVENT TICKETS” contest! How does it feel to win?

It actually feels really good! My team and I worked pretty hard to get to our final result and we are very proud that we won the third price. The three competing months were very intense, but also very exciting, we had so much fun!

Could you tell us a bit more about yourselves, the team, and the restaurant?

Bobbi’s Bar is a restaurant and cocktail bar in the city centre of Breda. Last year, while we were competing the contest, we celebrated our fifth year and many more to come! Our food is mainly modern cuisine with some Mediterranean flavours. At Bobbi’s Bar you can drink the classic cocktails, but our bar team will always have time to make something special for you! In total we are with around eight bartenders who are mostly students with a passion for bartending and working hard haha. To make our team complete we have very dedicated waiters, runners & managers. Most people who work at Bobbi’s Bar have already worked here for years so our team is very close, what results in a fun and positive atmosphere.

How did you approach Sir Edmond Gin’s contest?

We were invited via mail for competing in this contest. After discussing it with the team we decided that it would be fun to have this little contest. We have some very competitive people working at Bobbi’s, so I immediately knew that this was going to be very fun!

What were your expectations when you started the contest?

Actually our expectation was to win, hahaha. We were not very surprised that after a while they announced that we were in top 5. After hearing this, we wanted even more to win this contest, but as you guys know we got the third place. We were still very happy with that, but I would lie if I don’t say we were a little disappointed that we didn’t win.

How did the contest play out in practice? Was it easy to participate?

It was easier that we thought it would be. In the beginning of course everybody had to find their way, but after a while our waiters were on fire. I tried to make it a real contest between them by setting up prices for the three people who sold the most Sir Edmond gin. Therefore I made a special Pornstar Martini Gin Tonic. The rules were very simple: the one who sells the most Pornstar Martini Gin Tonics will get a higher ranking in the contest. Every Monday I would send the ranking of that moment with a funny recap about the week before with updates and things that happened that week. People enjoyed it so much and some were even nervous to find out what place they were in.

Were there any unexpected challenges or fun moments during the contest?

There were not a lot of unexpected challenges, but there were so many fun moments during the contest. Especially the weekly updates were super fun, but also the live overtaking during our shifts. I can remember a night where our number 1 and number 2 were working and they only had a couple of cocktails difference in their ranking. They were competing so hard that every 15 minutes they overtook each other. It really felt like a battle for your life.

What are your plans for the tickets you won? Why did you choose this event?

So the idea was that our top 3 people would win the money and could choose an event of choice with the money we won. This was actually pretty hard, because our top 3 are 3 very different people. After a while I found a theatre tour from Richard de Leth where I wanted to go to myself, but then I thought maybe these girls would also like this. I proposed the idea and they all were very excited. Since these tickets were not very expensive, we invited all the people who joined our little contest and we now will be going with around 8 people in total to see this show.

How long have you been serving Sir Edmond Gin in your establishment?

We have been serving Sir Edmond from the beginning so that is almost 6 years now!

How do you promote Sir Edmond Gin in your establishment, and how did you promote it during the contest?

During the contest we mainly promoted it by  telling people we have a special cocktail at the moment. It was funny to see that some people even came back to drink this pornstar martini gin tonic again. Even still now some people still order it or are asking if we can make it for them. Mission complete I guess!

What are the most popular Sir Edmond Gin cocktails that you serve?

I would say just the Sir Edmond Gin & Tonic, but also still The Pornstar Martini Gin Tonic. We are even thinking about putting it on the menu!

Do you have any other fun anecdotes or stories (about Sir Edmond Gin) that you would like to share?

We are just extremely happy to have won this award. The whole team worked extremely hard for it, and this recognition feels fantastic. We want to thank Lotte (Brand Manager, Sir Edmond Gin) and Sir Edmond Gin for the great opportunity to enter this competition.

In conclusion, Bobbi’s Bar Breda’s impressive third place finish in the Sir Edmond Gin Contest showcases their dedication and team spirit. Their creative approach and commitment to excel not only earned them top recognition, but also set a high standard for future contests. As they celebrate their success (maybe even with a Pornstar Martini Gin & Tonic) and set out a plan what to do with the event tickets they have won, it’s clear that Bobbi’s Bar remains a standout venue in the world of gin enthusiasts.
