HERITAGE OF BOURBON VANILLA

The finest vanilla on earth grows on the tropical islands of Madagascar and Réunion, once called Bourbon Island. Together they produce around 80% of the world’s vanilla, nurtured by volcanic soil, tropical sunshine and centuries of craftsmanship. This is where Bourbon vanilla earns its legendary flavour.

2

PLANTATION

Vanilla plants thrive in the dappled shade beneath palms and other tropical trees. From planting to flowering, patience is key: it takes 2.5 to 3 years for the vanilla orchid to appear. During this time, the vines climb and grow strong, preparing for their first delicate blooms.

VANILLA ORCHID

Each blossom is delicately fertilised within this fleeting window, a task repeated hundreds of times. Nearly 600 blossoms yield just one kilogram of beans — true craftsmanship, patience and devotion in every pod.

BEANS

Once pollinated, the beans take 9 to 12 months to mature. When they become yellow it is time to harvest. The vanilla beans are harvested by hand and are treated with extreme caution because of their fragility.

5

DRYING

After harvest, the beans are dried in the sun for weeks, slowly losing moisture and deepening into their rich brown hue. This careful process unlocks Bourbon vanilla’s signature aroma. From 6 kilograms of fresh pods, only 1 kilogram of cured beans emerges. Pure flavour, rare and precious.

RESTING

After the drying period, the brown vanilla pods are carefully placed in wooden boxes to rest. Over 3 months, their flavour deepens and their aroma blossoms into the unmistakable richness of Bourbon vanilla. This quiet transformation is the final step before the beans bring their magic to Sir Edmond Gin.

PRODUCTION

Creating a premium spirit takes time, precision and passion. Sir Edmond Gin is crafted at Herman Jansen, a family owned distillery that has been operating since 1777. With over 250 years of experience, they bring craftmanship, innovation and care to every single drop. Produced in the gin capital of the Netherlands, Sir Edmond Gin is made with natural botanicals and high-quality alcohol. No artificial additives and flavouring, just honest ingredients, sourced from all over the world.

Our production process

  • DISTILLING
Juniper, angelica root, ginger, cinnamon and cardamom are distilled in two separate copper pot stills. As the botanicals heat up, their flavours are captured through gentle vaporisation and condensation, creating a pure and aromatic distillate.
  • INFUSION
After cutting the Bourbon vanilla, by hand because of its fragility, the vanilla is infused in alcohol for 6 to 8 weeks to extract the vanilla character.
  • BLENDING
The separate distillates and the vanilla extract are brought together in a balanced blend that forms the signature taste of Sir Edmond Gin.
  • RESTING
After the blending process, the substance will be put in a resting tank for 1 week to achieve perfect harmony.
  • BOTTLING
Once rested, the gin is bottled with care. At every stage, our tasting panel ensures the flavour remains consistent, refined, and unmistakably Sir Edmond.

THE ESSENCE OF SIR EDMOND GIN

A BOTANICAL LOVE STORY

Sir Edmond takes its botanicals very seriously. They are presents of Mother Nature, aren’t they? Six carefully chosen stars shape my rebellious spirit: Bourbon vanilla, juniper, angelica root, cardamom, ginger and cinnamon. Together they create a smooth, warm and distinctive character, balancing spice and sweetness. Allow me to introduce the botanicals that make every sip unforgettable.

01

JUNIPER

Macedonia

Juniper is the heart of every gin, and Sir Edmond is no exception. Harvested in Macedonia, these berries bring a crisp, pine-like freshness that creates classic structure. Balanced with Bourbon vanilla’s smoothness, juniper adds clarity and boldness, giving our gin its refreshing and rebellious edge.

02

ANGELICA ROOT

Angelica root is the earthy glue of Sir Edmond Gin. Grown in cool, moist soil near water, its sweetly scented roots tie the botanicals together, adding balance, depth and a touch of mystery. Once prized for medicinal uses, angelica now brings harmony and subtle complexity to every sip.

03

CARDAMOM

Guatemala

Cardamom is the fragrant spark of Sir Edmond Gin. Native to Asia and grown in Guatemala, its aromatic warmth lingers long after the first sip. This exotic spice adds intrigue and complexity, weaving through the botanicals to give the gin its daring, adventurous personality.

04

Ginger

Nigeria

Ginger is the zesty heartbeat of Sir Edmond Gin. Sourced from Nigeria, this bold root delivers vibrant heat and a subtle citrus edge, adding energy and depth. Its lively spice dances through the botanicals, balancing Bourbon vanilla’s smoothness and giving the gin a spirited, adventurous kick in every sip.

05

Cinnamon

China

Cinnamon is the warm flourish of Sir Edmond Gin. Harvested from the inner bark of trees in China, this ancient spice brings gentle sweetness and soft warmth. It rounds out the botanicals, adding depth, comfort and sophistication, and completes the flavour profile with a smooth, inviting character in every sip.

06

Bourbon vanilla

Réunion

Bourbon vanilla is the soul of Sir Edmond Gin. Sourced from Réunion, it gives the gin its golden glow, silky smoothness and warm, indulgent finish. Honouring the legacy of Edmond Albius, this prized bean transforms every sip into a magical experience, balancing the botanicals and bringing the spirit to life.
